History
Ëlinyr was born to a sun-elf mother (Mariana Andaleh) and a human father (Grigor Dahildi) and spent her early years in the Pearl City living with her mother.
Ëlinyr’s parents met when Mariana came across Grigor as he was playing the lute in the docks district of Kishar one day, and Mariana found the human male entertaining and attractive. Ëlinyr was the result of that brief dalliance, and while Mariana quickly tired of Grigor, she allowed him to have a part in his daughter’s life. Grigor passed away when Ëlinyr was relatively young (30), and she took it very hard when he died.
Her early education involved many tutors, hand-selected by her mother, who worked to turn Ëlinyr into the perfect picture of future sun elf nobility. Ëlinyr, however, felt there were more important things to learn about than etiquette, dancing, and sewing – and begged her mother to be sent to the Royal Academy for her education. Eventually, Mariana gave in and let Ëlinyr go to Kishar to study at the Royal Academy – with the stipulation that if she found a sun elf noble who desired Ëlinyr’s hand in marriage, Ëlinyr would leave the Academy and come back to Isildur to marry them. Once at the Royal Academy, Ëlinyr decided to study magic, a subject she was intrigued by – and was skilled in, as it turns out.
Somehow, miraculously, Ëlinyr managed to ruin every one of Mariana’s attempts at marrying her off to some boring, stuffy sun elf lord or another. (Likely because every time her mother called her off to “dinner”, she’d throw on her rattiest scholars robes, do her hair up messily, and slip entirely into the role of a stereotypical scholar. Not many nobles want to marry an eccentric scholar who studies magic!)
After many years of studying magic (among other topics), and many years spent prowling the libraries of the Royal Academy, Ëlinyr’s best friend Kateryn suggested that maybe she needed to get out more – and she had the perfect idea for doing that. Kateryn had heard tales of the deeds of the Adventurer’s Guild, and thought “hey, maybe Ëlinyr should be an adventurer!” So, after much pestering from Kateryn, Ëlinyr decided to go on her first adventure.
After about a year or so of adventuring, Ëlinyr ended up stumbling upon the Night Market and found herself incredibly intrigued by what the merchants in this strange market offered. The ability to learn all the languages in existence? Very tempting. However, the ability to change one’s race was what caught Ëlinyr’s attention – and the possibility of escaping her mother’s matchmaking attempts once and for all. Yes, Ëlinyr decided to become human. Mariana was enraged over the fact that she couldn’t marry her daughter off to some noble in an attempt to raise her own standing, so she disowned Ëlinyr – who was immediately taken into House Lacewing, and made their Chief Archivist.
Due to some strange twist of fate (or someone at the Night Market being fond of jokes), Ëlinyr’s ears grew pointed again a few months later, revealing the fact that she was simply a thinblooded sun elf and not entirely human. She still kept her newfound sense of humor, however, and the oh-so-overwhelming yet oh-so-wonderful ability to fully experience emotions.
Important Relationships
Alair Syldithas: One of Ëlinyr’s husbands, poet of the Liminal Circle, and entrancing storyteller. Ëlinyr had the pleasure of attending one of his story readings, and almost immediately realized she needed to get to know this thinblooded elf more. Over time, they developed feelings for each other, and just before she went off to fight the Flame Lord, Alair proposed to Ëlinyr. (Which resulted in her getting weepy.) During the war with the Nocturnal Empire, Alair joined with the resistance in Isildar and, with the help of a visit to the Night Market to gain the skills of a rogue, ultimately helped the residents of the Pearl City eject the Nocturnal Empire. [NPC, played by J.]
Ithuryn N’Vea: One of Ëlinyr’s husbands. Ithuryn attended the Royal Academy with Ëlinyr, and the two were in many of the same classes. They spent a fair amount of time studying together, and learned that they had a fair bit in common, and eventually Ëlinyr developed rather strong feelings for Ithuryn. He disappeared under mysterious circumstances one night – and Ëlinyr searched all through Kishar for him and even went so far as to see if he had returned to Isildar. When she couldn’t find him, she thought she would never see him again – until one fateful day, when he came into Lin’s Study for a cup of coffee while Ëlinyr was working at the cafe. Now that the pair are reunited, Ëlinyr finally declared her feelings for Ithuryn, and he confessed his love for Ëlinyr as well. Ithuryn has taken on the role of Ëlinyr’s protector, helping keep her safe during her exploits with the Adventurer’s Guild. [PC, played by Peter.]
Cyl: Ëlinyr’s… partner? Fancy feytouched man? [Currently unsure of the label for their relationship.]
Moira: One of Ëlinyr’s students at the Royal Academy. After rescuing Moira and a number of other classmates from an ill-planned trip to the desert to hunt for artifacts, Moira decided she wanted to work with Ëlinyr and help her out however she could. Currently runs Lin’s Study while Ëlinyr is off adventuring and acquiring books to sell at the shop. [NPC, played by Kasi.]
Mariana Andaleh: Ëlinyr’s mother. Mariana disowned Ëlinyr when she had herself turned human at the Night Market, then tried to take that back when she realized Ëlinyr was simply just thinblooded. Currently in Prinya, somehow ended up the captain of an airship. [NPC, played by Kasi.]
Obeah Nganga: Bestest bestie. Before she was turned thinblooded, she was constantly skeptical of Obeah’s shenanigans. After her trip to the Night Market (and her subsequent gaining of emotions and a sense of humor), though, she realized he’s actually a heck of a lot of fun. [Retired PC, played by Andyroo.]
